Learn where to find what you need.
The NIH's website is such a rich source of information for research, but you need to know where to find what you are looking for. Keep in mind that the NIH provides health information for consumers, researchers, clinicians, and more. This page will point you toward the sections of the NIH's site that are most relevant to graduate research. We'll dissect the site, section by section below.
Health Information
NIH Publications List: This database embedded within the NIH site allows you to search for any NIH publication by entering key data (keyword, publication number, institute, etc.). It will also filter by "newly added publications" for the most up-to-date information.
NIH Social Media: This list provides hundreds of social media links for the NIH and all of its institutes and centers. Look for research-centered links such as the REPORT listserv (Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tools), or Intermural research's Facebook and Youtube pages, among many, many others.

News & Events
NIH Research Matters: This weekly update of research highlights is a great first stop to capture what's new specifically in NIH research. It includes an archive and links to RSS feeds for access to more research news.
Research & Training
Medical Research Initiatives: This may be your first stop in the Research & Training section. It is worth your time to peruse the NIH's core areas of research and access the extensive Research Fact Sheet database.
Research in Action: This unique page provides information about the individuals conducting NIH intramural research, and the story of their work. For graduate students, it is a great starting point for focused research inspiration, insight into the research process, and potential contacts for follow-up study.
Library Resources: This goldmine portal of information gives access to the National Library of Medicine, the NIH Library, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Library. Please note that although the NIH Library says it's for NIH staff, it is a usable resources for non-staff users.
Research Resources: This section contains links to important information sources such as the Model Organisms for Biomedical Research, NIH Human Embryonic Stem cell Registry, and the NIGMS Human Genetic Cell Repository.
Clinical Research Resources: This section directs users to two important research resources--clinicaltrials.gov, and the NIH Office of Human Subjects Research. The second resource has link to a database that allows users to search IORG and IRB documents submitted in the last 60 days.
Safety Regulation & Guidance: Important safety and regulatory guidelines are contained in this section, and help guide researchers as they navigate their own projects. Two highlights include Guidelines for Conduct of Research, and Policies and Procedures for Promoting Scientific Integrity.
Other Resources: Provides access to the US Government Scientific and Technical Publications, also known as the National Technical Information Service, as well as the science.gov database of federal science websites.
Quick Links: On the right navigation bar, don't miss the links to useful health research databases such as PubMed.gov and the NIH Intramural Database.
